Comments about AIRE "D" Series 156D Self-Bailing Rafts:

My plan was to purchase NRS Otter or E, but after months of researching, I decided to go with AIRE. Diminishing tube with Sealed Pocket Floor option makes this boat a very nimble and fun expedition boat. Most 15-16 footers are pigs, and pretty much line-it-up-and-hope-for-the-best. This D option even at 15'6" is very nimble and quick to turn. I think the sealed floor also helps with the maneuverability. There is enough room for 3-4 passengers for multiday camping trip, and I plan to take my family of 6 down the Rogue this summer. R version may hold a bit more gear, but, in my humble opinion, the D is the best of both worlds. Construction is bomb proof, and their 10 year no fault warranty is one of a kind on the market. The only regret I had was lack of color choice.

    • AIRE "D" Series 156D Self-Bailing Rafts

      Q:

In the specs you say 74" is max length of frame for this boat but i have a 156R and I want an NRS Cargo Frame and the shortest they make is 82". Will the 156R and the NRS Cargo Frame work together?

        A:

The issue for you is that with that longer frame the side rail ends will rub on the tubes where they kick up. One way to help is to go with a 72" wide frame. This will put the side rails about 3" out past the centerline of the tubes, giving the rail ends a bit more room. Also, consider going with the Compact Outfitter Frame; rowing off the cooler or dry box frees up more space. And, we can customize side rail lengths for you. Give us a call to discuss options for getting you the best frame for your needs, 800.635.5202.

      Q:

Is it possible to order the 156R or do you just offer the D Series? If so what's the timing on shipping?

You bet, we don't stock the boat but can get it in a hurry. Current colors at AIRE are blue, green, orange, and red, shipping to us in 2-3 days. $4549.00 without thwarts. Thwarts are $240.00 each. And as always, accessories you buy with the boat are 10% off.

    • AIRE "D" Series 156D Self-Bailing Rafts

      Q:

Can I special order different colors for the 156D? I wanted the yellow option.

Also, how does this raft compare to the E-152 Cheyenne? It'll be used as both a paddle and oar boat.

        A:

Yes, Curtis, yellow is a color option, call 800.635.5202 to order. The boat has similar dimension to the E-152 (use the Compare feature to evaluate). Both will work great as paddle and oar boats.
