The extremely light, smooth-rowing Sawyer SquareTop™ Oar has been proven in challenging whitewater. A direct descendent of Sawyer's wooden oars, you'll love rowing this updated classic.
  • The SquareTop Oar combines the best features of time-tested wooden oars and modern composite technology. It's light, responsive, and it floats.
  • The wooden shaft features the same laminated construction that has made Sawyer Light™ oars the first choice of professional dory and drift boat guides.
  • Progressive Flex™ design delivers a natural feeling and positive rebound by way of a strategically tapered shaft.
  • The solid laminated Douglas Fir piece of wood extending the full length of the oar gives you a tough, yet flexible, oar.
  • The thicker square top forms a natural counterweight to balance out the oar's swing weight.
  • A carbon-fiber composite braid extends from the square top down to the DyneLite™ Blade. The blade is not removable.
  • The carbon-fiber braid allows a smaller diameter, lighter shaft to have the strength of a much thicker, heavier oar.
  • A wood core and carbon fiber overlay give the DyneLite blade an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Dynel/Kevlar ProTip is super abrasion resistant and protective.

Comments about Sawyer Square Top DyneLite Oar with Wrap & Stop:

The oars did not match. The grips did not match, one was so short my hand barely fit. The other was good, matched all my other oars. Whoever picks product should make sure they match. Since I am in Texas and away from the NW maybe they were trying to get rid of an imperfect oar. The imperfect oar should have been returned to the manufacturer. I am using my 7 foot oars now and am looking for other 9 foot oars. I use them to move my large boat and need the power, very uncomfortable to use.

Comments about Sawyer Square Top DyneLite Oar with Wrap & Stop:

        Day and Night:

I have been a professional fishing guide for 14 years in East Tennessee and North Carolina. The shoal cut offers a better acceleration in low water which I frequent. I have been using the boat brand oars for the past 14 years and ordered these with some scrutiny of the performance based on price. Blown away....I don't know why every drift boat manufacturer does not include these as part of their package because the completely enhance boat's performance by 60%.

          Q:

Since the blade is not removable, can the blade be replaced in the event that it is damaged? Or, do you have to replace the entire oar?

Just got a pair have only had them out once so far on a little very mellow test drift. I really like them so far, but just be aware the blades are fixed no swaping em out at least not easily and I thoughtthey would be a little more counter balanced but that may be just my setup

            A:

These oars are wood with a carbon-fiber overlay. Yes, they float. I assume the issue with your current oars is they feel heavy because of the weight out past the oarlocks. If they are Carlisles, or any other 1 7/8" OD oar you can add the Cataract Counterbalances, Item # 77304.01, Another option is Cataract Counterbalanced Oars, Item # 77315.01, paired with either the Cataract Razor Blades or the Magnums. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, to discuss these various options.

What length would you recommend for a six man, 2 bench seat river raft. Would like to buy these as a surprise for my brother, but not sure of length.

Oar length is best determined by knowing the distance between the oarlocks on the boat's frame. Please give us a call, 800.635.5202, with more information on your brother's set up and we'll help you get your surprise figured out. And just fyi, unless these particular oars are the ones he has his heart set on, there are some great alternatives that are less expensive.
