Holds pressure up to 2.4 PSI. This valve is intended to be used without the cap. The included fine-mesh screen will help keep debris out of the valve. If your valve should start leaking while boating, use the Pressure Relief Valve Cap (Item # 38534.01, sold separately) as a back up to keep the floor airtight. To clean the valve, follow the directions given in the video linked here on this page.

How To: Clean and Repair a Leafield A6 Pressure Relief Valve (3:01)

A leaky pressure relief valve can reduce the performance of your inflatable raft or kayak. In this instructional video, the NRS Repairs Department shows you how to inspect, clean and fix your pressure relief valve so you can get back out on the water. The Leafield A6 Pressure Relief (PR) valve prevents damage that can be caused by over-inflation in NRS and other manufacturers' inflatables. All self-bailing NRS rafts and kayaks come with an A6 PR valve in the floor. A leaky pressure relief valve is usually caused when grit or debris impedes the seal.

    Q:

The item description is not clear. Please advise if the valve includes the screen (item # 1484.3 / 38533.01) ? Or does the screen have to be purchased separately ?

Yes, it does come with the screen. Phill, thanks for catching that and letting us know. I'll get that added to the text.

Bought a used, 10 yr. old NRS raft several years ago so I expected it to require some maintenance. Existing valve started to leak on 5 day trip on the Lower Salmon. Very slow leak, so I just had to pump up the floor once or twice a day. I did not know that there is a cap that you can use if it fails like that again. I'm going to have to get one. Put in the new valve & fortunately it was easier than I expected. Works just fine.

I like my NRS raft but this valve is a constant pain. Instead of continually replacing it with the same item, it is time to redesign this product and come up with something that gives better service. Perhaps it works ok in the clean northwest rivers but it does not last long in our silty southwest desert rivers. The plug is an ok work around but it is time to rethink this PRV.

Comments about Leafield A6 Pressure Relief Valve:

I wish I would have had one of these after my floor valve failed. I had to float for the day with a deflated floor. If I would have had this cap, I would not have had to drain my floor after the float.
