    Q:

6'1" 215 lbs. novice. looking to river, bay and ocean paddle. is this for me?
Asked on 5/12/2013 by Grandpa from Jersey Shore

      A:

You're looking for a board that will do some very different things. The Czar will excel at river and ocean surfing. It will do okay at flatwater paddling, but won't track quite as well, or be as stable, as say the Baron 6. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, and we'll help talk you through the choice.

  • NRS Czar 6 Inflatable SUP Board

    Q:

Is the 6" thick Czar stiffer than the 4" thick Tyrant? I know that I need the extra flotation (220 #)but am wondering about the stiffness of a 6" board.
Asked on 5/11/2013 by Bigcabezon from Santa Cruz, CA

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Both boards will be similarly stiff. The 15+ psi air pressure makes for a very rigid surface.

Comments about NRS Czar 6 Inflatable SUP Board:

We bought a Czar to bring with us on our travels around the world and figured that taking it to Kauai would be a good testing ground for surf-ability in the ocean. I was blown away, this sucker is stable once you find the balance point and it shreds on waves up to 6' in the ocean. Killed it at Hanalei bay and was running laps around all the surfers unable to catch the waves. Need to have all three fins in when getting up to speed to get onto the wave, otherwise it is just a little too squirrely. My wife bought the Earl 6 and was equally impressed, but this board is made for SUP surfing. Excellent build quality and I am a bigger dude (6 '2'' 250 lbs) and it never once felt "too small" or that I didn't have enough volume beneath me. Very stiff for inflatable and gives a bit of a "full suspension" feel to it compared to a real glass or epoxy board, which actually is more forgiving when first learning to catch waves. One weakness that I found is aggressive turning while surfing in the ocean, but with a little paddle work you can get it down.

Comments about NRS Czar 6 Inflatable SUP Board:

This is a superior board made by NRS. It is light and just the right size to carry without being so long that you are dinging the edges. The board will take abuse anyway -- clearly well made and fairly impervious. It floats high and turns well and handles well against chop. It tracks straight for its shape. My wife and I both give this board an A plus. We have several boards but consider this the best one going. Fun!

Comments about NRS Czar 6 Inflatable SUP Board:

I've had the Czar for a few months now. I've paddled class 2 through 4, waterfalls, ocean swells and some quality flatwater overnight trips on this board. Its short enough to turn easy in whitewater. Good rocker and high float keep you clear of obstacles. The deck pad has great traction and the removable skegs are key for shallow rivers. It make a great sleeping pad too!
