How To: Stretch a Sprayskirt (1:36)

To prevent water leakage and implosion, you want a neoprene-deck sprayskirt to fit tight to your kayak cockpit coaming. However, if it's so tight, you have trouble getting it on the rim or pulling it off in an emergency. In this video, we show you how to stretch the skirt a bit.

I don't know how thick it is without measuring it, but it must be at least a
couple of millimeters. But whatever, its good enough to do the job. It
      does not sag.

      Matt,
The neoprene deck is a bit thinner than my whitewater deck and also a bit less hot. The skirt in general is quite functional--it is comfortable, is easy to put on your waist and the deck, and effectively keeps water out. If you plan to do a lot of rolling and keep the inside of the boat bonedry, you'll probably want to consider a neoprene tunnel as well. For touring and comfort, however, this skirt can't really be beat in my opinion. We have both the glacier trek with breathable tunnel and without. I would recommend paying a bit more to have it be waterproof breathable.

I have ordered custom size glacier spray skirts on several occasions for
boats I have built and they have always been spot on and have served me
well over the years. My cockpits tend to be small, and I use a medium tube,
the two are compatible, no problem.
I recommend that you trace the outline of your cockpit coaming so that the
fit is just right. You might want to also order a cockpit cover at the same
time so they can custom fit that as well.

I was perfectly happy with the same size as I have for my NDK Romany.
BUT do not buy the Galcier! It WILL leak after a year or so. Go for the Ocean Tour EXP or Oceab Trek, they are excellebt and durable and waterproof in any condition !
Size M (they are listed under Nigel Dennis.. :)

you need to measure the cockpit of your kayak and then compare that to this
      chart:
      http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2055#infotab_Sizing
and don't worry about up- or down-sizing. the chart is spot on.

There ar two parts to skirt fitting; the deck to fit the boat and the tube to fit you. Go to the manufacturer's site www.snapdragondesign.com. In the upper left corner click Tube Sizing. In the second chart the Glacier tube sizing is listed. measure at the sternum. Note tube size.
then click Deck size. go to bottom on writing to the FIT LIST. On the secnd lIne click OCEAN/Trek Kayaks. Scroll down to Nigel Dennis and note the deck size is LV+ for the Pilgrim.
You will need both the Tube Size and the Deck size to order the right skirt.
I have 2 Glacier Trek skirts and highly recommend them unless you will roll the boat a lot or play in very strong sea conditions (hence the rolling). A full neoprene skirt is best for water tightness, but not the most comfortable.
      Cheers,
      JT

Comments about Snap Dragon Glacier Trek Sprayskirt:

I think it keeps water out of the kayak pretty well, but frame of reference is that previously I only used a 30+ year old rental nylon skirt that had holes in it, so compared to that thing, I might think a tin foil skirt seemed great. Bearing that in mind, I think this skirt is great, but what the heck do I really know?

Comments about Snap Dragon Glacier Trek Sprayskirt:

Needed a tough, waterproof skirt for coastal bay and some mild-to-moderate river rapid paddling, as other skirts seemed to pop off too easily or let water seep into the cockpit. I needed insurance for rough water. Snap Dragon fills the bill. I've noticed that most of the pro guides and instructors I know use Snap Dragon skirts.

Comments about Snap Dragon Glacier Trek Sprayskirt:

This is a great skirt for the money. The adjustable fit made use a snap. I wish that I had purchased one with a smaller tube (the fit guide recommended I get a medium even though I have a 30in inseam) because I get a little water in at my waist. But it's a really nice, breathable, lightweight skirt.
