Great fit but hard to zip

Comments about NRS Vista PFD - Youth:

I bought this for my son to use at the lake swimming and canoeing. Great fit and flotation but it is hard to zip. The flotation material gets in the way of the zipper. It looks like it would function better if the flotation material was tapered so the zipper had more clearance. We solved the problem by loosening the straps quite a bit, which isn't a big deal for me but makes it harder for my 6 year old to put on by himself. Overall still happy with the PFD.

Cons

  • Back Is Bulky For Kayak

Best Uses

Comments about NRS Vista PFD - Youth:

This is a quality PFD and I can use it for my 6 and eight year old. The down side is that the back is a bit thick. For kayak use it works better if it is thinner so as not to interfere with the seat back on the kayak. I'd still recommend it. Bought yellow for good visibility.

Mark, this jacket is designed for a person 50-90 pounds. If it fits good to your youngster, see this video for adjustment directions - http://www.nrs.com/tech_talk/pfdfitting2.asp - it should provide the flotation needed to keep their head above water. Use good judgment, have fun and be safe!

Yes, it's a great life jacket. Make sure your young paddler is in the
weight range. It can be big for a very small child. Have fun on the river!

There is no safe way to attach leg straps. Get a PFD that fits and keg straps are not necessary. Good luck.

This jacket doesn't have the loops for the leg straps like the Big Water V, Big Water Guide and Rapid Rescuer jackets. You could loop them over the bottom adjustment straps.

          A:

Yes, it is a Type III PFD, USCG approved floatation device. Type III means
that it will not turn a person face up in the water if they are
unconscious. Type III PFD's are comfortable and mostly used by boaters
where you can expect swift rescue. They will not turn an unconscious
person over on their back. I bought this for my son to paddle in.
