Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Water Shoe:

These shoes have great grip and dry overnight (in a ventilated area). The shoes are super lightweight. I wouldn't like them for walking or hiking as the rubber insole would make my feet feel sweaty (not to mention squeaky). A con would be that pebbles get into the shoe easily and you have to untie the shoe to remove the debris.

Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Water Shoe:

This shoe is the most comfortable shoe around. I love using it on and off the river! Originally I got it to be my boating shoe when I would wear my dry suit, but they are so comfortable I wear them for everyday use as well. The stealth sole is super sticky so slippery-wet-mossy rocks is no problem hopping around on when scouting. The best part about this shoe besides comfort, is the large toe box Astral designed. With the added room in the toe box, my toes have room to wiggle around for everyday use, and are comfortable when the feet of my dry suit need to be stuffed in the shoe. These shoes really can do everything. I will be ordering a second pair just to have around incase Astral stops making them for some reason....as companys seem to do with great products. And I have big feet and they make my feet look cute!

      Mixed Feelings About These

Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Water Shoe:

When I first got these shoes I thought they were awesome. I've probably tried 25 different water shoes over the years and these were the grippiest, without a doubt. I found them to be very comfortable with socks, but irritating without them.
On a sea kayaking trip in Baja, the plastic around drain holes on the inside of the arch rubbed holes in my feet and I had to cut them out. And after about 18 months, the seam at the top front froze up in a way that rubbed the top of my toes raw. There didn't seem to be any fix for that-even wearing socks didn't help, so I had to throw them out.
A lot of the concepts of this shoe are great: the grippy sole, the secure lacing, the drainage out the heel, the ability to wear them as camp shoes with a crushable heel, the everyday use styling- but they just didn't seem to get the materials right.
I'm still looking for the perfect water shoe...

Comments about Astral Women's Brewess Water Shoe:

I used this rafting and felt that if I was washed overboard these shoes would stay on my feet. I was able to get off the boat and walk on slippery rocks easily with them and the sturdy toe area kept my toes from being banged up. They drain and dry quickly.
The only problem is that when I went for a walk off trail in the hills the uppers collected the cheet grass seeds(as most shoes will). They worked their way into the inner shoe and were horrible to remove as the uppers have two layers. Most of the seeds I could remove by hand, but will have to use tweezers to get the others out.
I would not hike miles in these shoes without putting a supportive insert into them as they don't have enough arch support for my feet.

          Q:

I'm a guy with narrow foot (B-C). Would Women's shoe work better for me than Men's? If so, what size if my Men's size is 8.5?
Asked on 5/23/2016 by Fran from United States

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

            Fran, in most manufacturer's shoes a men's size 8.5 is equivalent to a women's 10.

            Good evening.
I think it would be ok on short hikes, but not certain on longer ones.
There is not much arch support (or padding) and the tread would have to be a lot more robust for my hiking treks. For short hikes/walks I think these would be fine.
            Have a nice hike!!

I've found this shoe to be great for paddling, since it's ok if it gets wet. I haven't done much (any) hiking in the shoe, so I can't comment for sure, but it does not seem like it would be particularly comfortable for this.

It's a great shoe for water wear as it drains quickly and is grippy on the bottom. My only concern with a major trek would be support. Inside it's pretty basic.

Hi there. I tried on a friend's Brewers and the 9.5 mens size fit well but I'd rather get a women's narrower width. Would that translate best to a women's 11?

Emily, Astral says that a men's size 9.5 will translate to a women's 10.5. Take into account what you had on your feet when you were trying on the 9.5, and what you might want to have on when wearing them "out in the world."

          Q:

Since this is listed as a women's shoe, is the sizing the same as other women's shoes? I just wanted to make sure that it is not men's/unisex sizing.

Also, is width narrower than the men's/unisex models of the Astral Brewer?

The women's shoes are in women's sizing. The width for comparable sized women's shoes seem just a bit narrower than the men's/unisex.

Sorry, we don't have any other photos at this time. The enlarged view in the "Larger Images & More Views" link shows the sole holes, along the sides of the sole. The heel opening is generous, for quick emptying of water and debris.
