NRS Toaster Mitts are the warmest paddling "glove" on the water. Its mitten-style design lets your fingers snuggle together for warmth while its pre-curved shape and grippy palm let you paddle and row with comfort and confidence.
  • Water-shedding 3.5 mm raw neoprene on the backs and sides protects your hands from cold and evaporative cooling.
  • Soft, fleece-like VaporLoft™ lining repels water and dries instantly for superior warmth and comfort.
  • Liquid sealed seams make Toaster Mitts completely waterproof up to the cuff.
  • We've used tough, grippy 2.5 mm raw neoprene in the palms for better paddle feel and control.
  • The pre-curved finger pocket ensures a comfortable grip on oar or paddle, yet is flexible enough not to limit your hands' mobility.
  • A rubber bite tab on the fitted wrist aids in putting on and taking off the mitts.
  • A titanium laminate adhesive layer in the material reflects heat back to your hands for even more warmth.
  • Pairing snaps on the wrists help keep the gloves together.

Comments about NRS Toaster Mitts - Closeout:

Mittens are always warmer than gloves other factors being equal. These are extremely warm. The stretch neoprene gives a snug fit which is critical since there is no wrist strap or other means to snug them at the wrist.

Use the sizing chart, not your normal glove size. I ordered my normal glove size and they were too big. Exchange was hassle free

Comments about NRS Toaster Mitts - Closeout:

I have an older pair of the toaster mitts and was interested in getting a new pair because these appear to be warmer. I was pretty disappointed with what I got. While they do seem significantly warmer, they are huge. I typically wear a xs in NRS gloves, and in fact I bought a new pair of the xs mavericks at the same time that I bought these, but these were way too long on my hands and somehow baggy/bunched underneath my fingers. Also they no longer are made with the velcro strap on the wrist which is a bummer too. If you have small womens hands don't buy these! The xs maverick is a little big but not manageable, I will not be able to paddle with these. They either need a xxs or a women's line of these.

            Q:

I'm concerned about the size and fitting. Since these are a closeout item, can I return them if they don't fit? I was thinking of ordering a size small and large, since there is not medium and sending the one that doesn't fit as well back.

              Hello "fellow shopper",
I’m sure NRS will let you do that - they make great products and their customer service is great. I’ve exchanged a couple of things so far and haven’t had a problem.

Call to find out about returns. The size is true with room. I use light weight fleece mittens for extra warmth.

One reviewer said they thought the gloves ran small so I ordered a medium when normally a small fits me. The medium glove fit just right. Good glove.

Hi, You'll be happy with these gloves. In my opinion you don't need to worry having them a bit oversized. They are comfortable and nice and they keep my hands warm which has been a problem at this time of year. Good luck! Henrik Bergen / Norway

            Q:

How is the wrist closure achieved?

The gloves look pretty warm and well sealed throughout, except for the wrist -- the cuff is neither elastic, nor is there a velcro strap to make it tighter.
I imagine there would be a lot of flushing if you fall in the water (while surfing, in wind sports, etc.)...

You are correct the wrist is not sealed at all, an incredible
oversight.. As a result fit is very important. As long as the
mitten fits snug amount of water entering is not a serious problem
when kayaking. In a water sport with more dynamic forces in very
cold water I could see an issue.

I bought these in June 2015 for kayaking and windsurfing. I live in Gaspésie, East Canada, and water is cold year long. I am sailing from end of March, when ice is breaking, to end of December till ice recovers the water.
Those gloves are the warmest I ever had so far (finger gloves in cold waters are not an option). While I was also skeptical on the absence of velcro straps, it is in fact way better without. The wrist shape is smaller and tighter than the rest of the glove and it fits very well under the suit (with a velcro on the gloves, you cannot do that or it will be quite uncomfortable). I put them under my dry top (like in the videoclip at 0'33) while kayaking and under my 7mm wetsuit when windsurfing. Being under the jacket or wetsuit allows water to goes out instead of in the mitts. Mitts and gloves ought not to have straps when worn that way.
              Hope it helps.

Hi it is a problem. Big defect of the gloves. I kayak surf with them and they get flushed. Next time out I was going to get Velcro straps and see if I can stop the flushing. The older gloves were better.

The wrist is not necessarily a tight, much less elastic, fit.  Bend your hand at the wrist and water will definitely enter.  Submerge your hand without flexion and water will enter.  It is stretchy but overall watertightness does not appear to be engineered into this aspect.

I have been in general very happy with the toaster mitts. My hands stay very warm using the mitts. But you are right, there is a little bit of leakage at the wrist even using dry suit. For me, this is not a problem, since I use them for sea kayaking.I'm not sure how much of a problem it would be in Whitewater kayaking etc.

The glove is loose but needs to be so. If i wear a jacket it will fit conveniently and snuggly over the cuff.I typically do not get very wet kayaking but am more interested in keeping my hands warm and dry from water off the paddles.

I cannot address the issue of wrist closure directly, but I can attest to the warmth of the mittens. Yesterday we paddled in 35 degree air temperature, 40 degree water temperature, and 12 mph wind speed. I generally have cold hand problems (I'm 70+) when paddling in neoprene gloves against the wind, but not so yesterday. I even purchased a size up so that I can wear smart wool glove liners underneath, but it hasn't been cold enough for wearing them yet. As for going in the water, I paddle a sit-on-top so during the rare occasions when I end up in the water I don't stay there very long. I hope this info is helpful.

The material itself is elastic and the gauntlet-style entry snugs to your wrist to minimize any water entry.
