    Q:

I need to put my Canon 40 D inside the center compartment of this daypack. Will it accommodate it ?

Sorry so late in answering, this went to my Spam folder. If you mean inside the green inner sleeve pocket, my Canon EOS Rebel fit but the 40D is bigger. It was an excellent bag. I took it to the Amazon and hiked up waterfalls, went down rivers and endured a lot of rainfall with no damage to my camera.
      Hope it helps,

I would say no, at least with a lens on the body. The opening is a slit 6"W. And while the roll down closure will be pretty water-resistant I wouldn't want to trust my expensive camera there if there's danger of immersion. Hi, depends on the lens, but I think the "kit lens" and body will fit fine.

When you say "the center compartment" is it correct that you mean the
small, bright yellowish green interior pouch, right? An my suspicion is
that the 40D is quite a large SLR camera, correct? The 40 D would fit in
the main pouch, no problem, but I doubt it would fit in the small interior
pouch, certainly not with any kind of case. Maybe stripped down with the
smallest lens possible, it might fit. But doubtful.

I didn't end up buying this bag, but I did have at home on a trial basis for a week. I'm sure the camera would fit, at least with a normal lens attached. NRS return policies are excellent, why not buy it and see for yourself? If you don't like it you can send it back without any hassle.

Is the outside waterproof as well or just the internal bag?

As long as you roll the top and bleed it of air it's pretty waterproof. Like any small drybag but if you're putting wet get inside the bag condensation will build up. I swam with it on my back several times with my digital slr camera and it came through just fine.

All waterproof. Same idea as a dry bag, except has straps so you can wear it like a backpack and has additional waterproof internal pocket to keep items separate.. For example wet clothes separate from dry clothes. Works well, no issues with mine and I've had it about a year. It's a cool bag. Hope this helps!

My son has this backpack. The exterior is made of waterproof material but it doesn't have a "zip-loc" seal at the closure like some dry bags. I think it rolls down and clips, which has been sufficient for him.

Primarily the waterproofing is on the inside of the pack. This summer I
took the pack on Kayak trip in the Brooks Range and had the thing strapped
to the outside of my boat. I found that the outside of the pack did get
wet but it did not hold water. What I mean by that is that the material
didn't soak up water and remain squishy but instead it just sorta repelled
it off when I pick up the pack.
Overall we liked the pack and thought it performed well. it rained nearly
everyday we were up north so it was a good test.

Just had this backpack out fishing this morning in the rain....it is
awesome. The outside is totally impervious to water. I had it sitting on
a rock and it was holding a puddle of rain on top of it. This has been one
of my best wet weather investments ever!

      Hi folks,
This is a great service, we would love to help your customers.
We really like this bag. Nice design, works perfectly as described.
The bag is one layer -- on the outside is a water repellant surface that is
abrasion resistant and the inside has the water proof coating. Also, there
is a water proof clear pouch inside so you can stow small items near the
top. There is a secondary pouch to help you separate items from the main
      compartment.
We used this bag traveling in Zodiacs, kayaking and hiking in the Galapagos
(and we plan to take it to Antarctica) with camera gear and it worked very
      well.
      We highly recommend this bag.
      Hope that helps,
      Greg

Comments about Aquapac Wet & Dry Backpack - 788:

I ordered the bag for my trip to the Amazon. My husband and i shared it for our day trips. We trekked through rainforest, canoed down jungle rivers, hiked up and behind waterfalls. The bag was lightweight, extremely waterproof, held my Canon EOS rebel, clothes, large water bottle, hat, snacks and binoculars just fine. We plan to use it as a dry bag for scuba diving on our next trip.

Comments about Aquapac Wet & Dry Backpack - 788:

Was on a nine day canoeing/camping trip - it acted as my day pack, and I was able to get in and out of it easily, enjoyed having the three different compartments so that I could organize my materials in it, used both external side pockets for water/thermos easy access, and was able to throw it down wherever I was, whatever the weather, feeling confident it would stay dry. Enjoyed the pliant material (versus a dry bag style of waterproof pack, which I found was hard to get into and uncomfortable to carry).

This thing is great!! Took it to the Caribbean as my carry on. Used it on dive boats, local tours and for beach days. Kept our stuff dry even when we packed wet gear into the dry portion of the dry bag. Can't wait to use it on the river as I know that it will work sweet.
