Comments about Eddy Out Replacement Latch For Aluminum Box:

I have a stainless cooler that the latch wasn't securing after a big trip, so I replaced it with one of these babies, love it. And it folds flat when not in use to be even flatter in front than my previous swivel latch.

Good latch. I built my own dry box and used these proven latches for the lid.

Use the largest diameter rivet that will easily fit the hole and 1/4 to 3/8 long

#6 or 3/16" is what I use when I build my dry boxes.

Holes are 3/16". Our dry boxes are 0.080" thick aluminum.

No, I dont think you can lock this in a secure way. You would need to put
in a different sufficient hasp to lock it. But, it does ratchet down with
enough pressure to make the box watertight if installed within the right
                  tolerance.

This latch doesn't have a locking feature. With an aluminum box it's pretty easy to rivet or bolt on a padlock hasp.

No, short of using a cable lock, there is no way to put on a lock. I guess you could install a hasp lock next to this, then you could put a lock on that hasp and one of the "ears" of this clasp.Good luckDave

Are these Latches made of solid Aluminum or are they zinc-plated steel/stainless steel? I need aluminum as they will be tack welded to an aluminum box.

I bought several of these and I beleive they are steel, not aluminum. I
dont think aluminum would be strong enough anyway. I used pop rivets and
some silicon. If you mount htem yourself, be careful to make them fit a bit
tightly, since you want them to pull the lid closed tightly to be
                  waterproof.

These latches are made of zinc plated steel and stainless steel. There isn't any aluminum in them. They are a great latch though. I built my own aluminum dry box and I used aluminum rivets to hold them on.
