For a long torso

      Comments about Astral Greenjacket PFD:

For the price and the hype one expects this as an "every paddler pfd". Unfortunately it is not a universal fit. It is better suited to a tall slim build.

Female paddler friends did not find the fit comfortable, stating the front of the pfd would slide to one side of the chest.
As a male I did not have that issue.

For those who are short in the torso the Greenjacket allows the wearer to cinch the front straps and lower front of the pfd which tightens shoulder straps, unfortunately this cinches shut the hand warmer pocket.

The clam shell pocket is a great idea as you get a good view of whats inside but the consetina sides are too low to allow items to remain in the pocket when opened.

The knife attachment point is in the wrong place. It should be on the shoulders of the pfd. If you expect to use a whitewater rescue PFD to do swiftwater/whitewater rescue courses or use the PFD while rafting then the last thing you need is a knife attached in front of the torso that will get snagged.

The loop at the front and base of the PFD is a nice feature for the extreme kayaker.

Suited for the tall and lean kayaker not working as a Safety boater, Guide or Instructor.

Suggest buyers look at the NRS ZEN Rescue PFD for a universal fitting PFD at a great price.

        Comments about Astral Greenjacket PFD:

The Greenjacket continues to set the bar for rescue pfd's. I upgraded to this latest Greenjacket from my old first gen Green jacket. The new PFD has improvements over the older models, biggest for me being the clamshell front pocket is much better, opening down so the contents are right in front of you when you have the pdf on. I keep my waterproof camera in there and it's much easier to access. I use the pfd for creeking and swift water rescue. The quick release works great and the front webbing attachment point is a big plus if oyu need to clip in for an emergency. Stays on and tight when swimming.

Chris, the jackets we have are not Canadian certified. As far as I know Astral hasn't done that certification yet.

Hi, I am trying to figure out what size to get. I'm a woman who measures 37" around the chest (including built-in floatation). I often wear more than one layer under my drytop/suit. Should I size up to the M/L?

Is it possible to have a green jacket made in xxl? Or xll? I'm a 6'5" raft guide that loves the green jacket, jus wish it was made one size bigger.

            A:

Shaner, the L/XL fits up to a 51" chest and the only difference in the three sizes is the length of the adjustment straps; the foam flotation in each is the same. All life jackets go through a very expensive certification process and once approved a manufacturer can't change things without going back through the process.
