Comments about Astral Sea Wolf PFD:

Best PFD I have ever owned in over 50 years on the water. The only downfall is that there is no place to carry a portable VHF marine handheld radio. This can be overcome by purchasing a separate portable radio holster.

    Amazing

Comments about Astral Sea Wolf PFD:

This jacket is amazing. Great fit, high quality. As a female rafter who is far from flat-chested I finally have a jacket that fits snuggly and securely while maintaining motility and (here's the new one) the ability to breathe. Jacket is outstanding for numerous reasons, but this is probably my more unique review and love.

Comments about Astral Sea Wolf PFD:

I had a 12+ year-old Lotus Sea Sherman that I wore on many a paddling adventure. It had adequate storage and was comfortable. I finally needed to replace it and I did a pretty exhaustive search. Simply put this is the best life jacket I have ever used for sea kayaking or solo canoeing. I like the small attention to detail that Astral includes: large center storage pocket with sewn in gear tethers; reflective tape; side or over the head entry. Oh and did I mention that the Sea Wolf is light? Once I put it on I forget that it is there.

Comments about Astral Sea Wolf PFD:

Have used for about a year. My first and only but all I will say is I wear it all the time, even in the canoe when I really don't need it. It is so light and comfortable, once it's on, I just forget it is there. I use the front pocket a lot for things I use a lot, and I can fit my keys, wallet, and phone in a small dry bag in there. I also put my chapstick and a small thing of sunscreen. Stays in place, and doesn't ride up. Couldn't be happier with it.

        Great PFD

Comments about Astral Sea Wolf PFD:

I've been paddling since 1989 and this is simply the best PFD a paddler can purchase. Yes they are expensive but worth every penny. I have been using Stohlquist Rocker PFD's for years, and although the Rocker is a very good PFD it doesn't compare to the Sea Wolf. You will not even know the vest is on. The shoulders fit comfortably and stay in place, the wrap-around panels never rides up. Once on the PFD is on and your ready for the water and paddling there is no fidgeting or adjustments that have to be made.Love the big bad front pocket with internal pockets and a zippered mesh pocket inside the large front pocket. I put my power bars in one of the two side pockets. If a paddler has a chance try one of these vests, adjust it on your body and you will be amazed. Love this PFD

          Q:

Would a small 1-liter hydration bladder fit in the front pouch of the sea wolf? I'd love a jacket with integrated hydration, rather than an add-on.

Probably but it would take away all the other benefits of the pocket. You would be better off with a camelbak sitting on your deck instead

I have not tried it and I don't know the specs of the front pocket (if there are any) but I would say with 60% assurance that it would work. My suggestion would be just to fill the bladder up with water until it gets too large to fit then let some out. My guess is that you would get the full liter but if not you would still be close and that's a good bit of water.

Andy, the pocket is 9"w x 7"T, so a bladder of the right shape should fit in there.
