    Q:

I need a zipper pocket. I do not see one. I have other life vest a sm/medium and it is too big. If not what life vest do you recommend?

      A:

Marianne, the pocket on the front of the Abba doesn't have a zipper but it has a very secure snap closure. There are two zippered openings on the sides of the jacket for fleece-lined handwarmers. They are spacious and you can also use them for storage. The Astral Linda and NRS Zoya both have zipper closure pockets - http://www.nrs.com/category/2684/life-jackets/womens-life-jackets - Life jackets are sized by chest size. Check the sizing chart on each of the jackets to find the right size for you. Don't go by "small" or "small/medium;" different jackets may have the same name designation but fit different chest size ranges.

The life vest below has TWO zippered pockets, and additional snap pocket. Not only are the zip pockets spacious, they are lined with light fleece which is great for cold days when you are too cold to remove your PFD at lunch! I have owned 6 PFDs, and this is by far my favorite.

The Astral has three zippers. One is one the front left down the whole
side under that little flowered area where you see the little grey tab.
There is a snap there (not a zipper). The snap is hidden under the flap.
So I said three. Actually two zippers. The other two zippers are on the
side of each front. The pull up to close. And slide down to open. They
are good. They let you in to two big areas under the pink. It has plenty
of storage. You will like it.

When used in the summer, does this vest have good ventilation? I would prefer not having to dunk it every 30 min because it doesn't breath. Thanks!

I like my vest. But I am not sure it breathes like you want. It is my
first one. I have only whitewater kayaked before for two years. The thing
I do not like about it is - on me, it tends to ride up some around my
chin. I keep pulling it down, but it sorta pushes its way back up. Then
seems my neck strap on my helmet and the front of the PFD are rubbing.
But, it is not a huge problem. Some of the vests I wore that did not do
that, were flimsy, rental types, and not probably safe at all. I like the
kapok in it. It rinses nice. It has been in a chlorine pool every weekend
for a year and a half for rolling practice in the winter and the bright
cranberry pink has not faded seems at all. So overall I do like it. But,
venting, cannot attest to that. It seems way heavier than some that I know
people bought at Eastern Mountain Sports. And it does not have the netting
on the back I don't think. That can get snagged. Some people do not know
that that is not good for white water people. This one is safer for that
      reason. Hope it helps.

Well, if you're wearing a PFD, you're going to get hot at some point
depending on where you are paddling. I've used this particular model (the
all black version) for the past 2 summers in the Boundary Waters in
Northern Minnesota and have been very happy with it. I lead paddling
expeditions, and am wearing it for 6 weeks out of every season. Our
hottest days get into the mid 80's and I've never been uncomfortable in the
      Astral.
      Good luck in your search!

Sorry for the late response. We have been on the river J
This is for my daughter, she got a small. She is 4'11. 100 lbs. She said
it doesn't ride up, make sure it's fitted correctly. She does have a bust,
and it does fit narrow, meaning "they" stick out a bit on the sides.
She does overall really like it.

It does ride up some but I am new at kayaking and I have not worn too many. I think all of them do that a little. But my club friends tighten it up for me (it is a little hard to pull tight on your own) and they yank me around in it to try to shake me loose and they say it "is good"! It definitely keeps you way UP in the water when you get dumped out.
Kapoc stuff is good and comfortable.

It does not ride up if worn properly in our experience. I can't say if it
does if worn loosely. My wife loves the jacket; she's 5'10 135lbs.

Any properly fitting and secured life jacket should not ride up. My wife has gotten dunked and had to swim plenty of times with this jacket has never had an issue of it riding up or coming uncomfortably out of place.

Comments about Astral Women's Abba PFD - Closeout:

Someone leant me this jacket for our recent Grand trip. It was like I was never wearing a jacket. It was end of July and I never felt hot though it was over 100 degrees on some afternoons. I set the straps at the put-in and never had to tighten or deal with them again. There were also no straps dangling all over after cinching it down. I am a size B, 148lbs. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with a larger chest. It really hugs you. I had the small on. The raspberry color is feminine and not too bright. The zipper was beefy and endured lots of monsoon rains and heavy silt laden rapids on it.

Comments about Astral Women's Abba PFD:

This life jacket fits really well - I am tall and muscular and small-breasted, but this is WAY more comfortable than men's PFDs. It stays in place in the water without having to be uncomfortably tight. So far it's been great for sailing, canoeing and kayaking; chafes the arms a little for SUP after a while, but not a show-stopper (and it's not advertised as suitable for SUP anyway, in Astral's defense). Ventilation isn't great so I need to wet it on a hot day.
