We recently got into kayaking. We are novices at loading and strapping things down and frankly were a bit intimidated by the process. These straps make our loading and unloading simple, safe and secure. The webbing is tough and the padded buckle prevents vehicle damage when we throw it over the kayaks. The paddled buckle also prevents damage to the kayaks when tightened down. We have 2, 12 foot sit on top kayaks that we load onto a Thule rack system. We use 2 pairs of 15' NRS straps. Highly recommend these straps!

Great idea for tie downs when loading you gear on a vehicle, but why do we have to buy extra straps as well? Why can't we simply buy the bumpers and place them on the NRS straps we already have? Those of us who boat frequently already have a gear bag full of NRS cams. Many of us live out of our cars all season and exist on sweaty cheese and river water, so expecting us to buy all new sets of straps specifically for travel tie downs is an economic burden.

Excellent straps

Comments about NRS 1" HD Buckle Bumper Straps:

I am a big fan of NRS straps for many years, previous NRS straps outlasted other brands I have owned. The addition of the rubber bumpers is welcomed, makes a fantastic product even better. Good to see we can buy the rubber bumpers separately for existing straps.
Well done NRS.

Comments about NRS 1" HD Buckle Bumper Straps:

I've had this type of strap before. I needed a pair of straps to replace another kind of strap that was showing signs of wear. I picked this type because it is sturdy, reliable and the buckle is non-maring. This is important to protect

      • NRS 1" HD Buckle Bumper Straps

        Q:

I purchased a pair of 15ft 1inch straps with buckle bumper. Product 6000302102 and used them to secure my 16 ft canoe to Ford Escape. Very effective but there is a constant loud noise and vibration from both straps. Any suggestions?

Try rotating the straps 180 degrees where they're not in contact with your
canoe. This seems to work for truckers.

Put a couple of twists in the straps where it is spanning free space.

Twist the straps occasionally. When they are flat, they vibrate like a musical string.

I've heard that if you put a twist in the strap, it is quieter. It might also be how you are running the straps. We learned a neat way to x-cross the strap under our kayak and we don't have issues with noise. Google ways to strap down your canoe and try another way. Also are you sure it is the straps? The rack can make a lot of noise. We minimized this by taping some pipe insulation around the rack cross pieces, much quieter.

Greg, when fastening the strap put a twist in the webbing. This will dampen the flutter that's causing that noise and vibration.

          A:

Yes, you're getting strap flutter. Make sure the straps are twisted at
least a couple of turns everywhere it doesn't touch the canoe. You may need
more turns sometimes but usually 2-3 wil do. Experiment with it. I'm a
whitewater kayaker and see this often.

Yes, Tim, they do. The Buckle Bumpers cushion all sides of the cam buckle, for superior protection of your gear from scrapes and dings.
