Comments about Carlisle Magic Plus Paddle:

I own a couple of Aire Tomcats, and I just bought a 2nd paddle here. The regular price is usually about $110. I got mine for 20% off (a great deal). This paddle works great. It's lightweight fiberglass, it's very comfortable holding it in your hands all day, and the blades move a lot of water. You can pay more for a good paddle (up to $400), but for about $100, you can't beat this value. If you're an inflatable kayaker, then this paddle should work well for you.

Comments about Carlisle Magic Plus Paddle:

I snapped the paddle in half and Carlisle replaced it. The first class-IV rapids out of five and it snapped in half again. Duct tape and branches to splint the halves together and I completed the trip. I wiegh ~230 lbs so my size, weight and loading are probably just too much for this otherwise fine paddle.

Great value for a paddle that is comfortable and well made. The fiberglass shaft is much more durable than the cheaper aluminum shaft version. Well worth the extra $

can this be used in whitewater with an inflatable kayak?

Yes – this is suitable for whitewater and long enough for an inflatable. I look for the largest blade size possible. I believe NRS is making another paddle now which has even larger blades.
              Have fun!

Hi, We use the Carlisle Magic Plus for whitewater use with inflatable kayaks while conducting salmon spawning surveys, and they have been a good option for us for several years now. The durability has been excellent, and performance has been good enough for comfortable use in class III and IV rapids. There is no doubt that they do not compete with better fiberglass or carbon options, but for the money these have performed well for us in relatively normal whitewater use...certainly better than the other similarly priced options.

Yes, works well with my three 10' solo inflatables (Aire Tributary and
Innova Safaris) as well as our 13.5' hardshell kayak.
