Keep your head warm and your body will follow. Mystery material sheds water to prevent the chilling effects of evaporation and neoprene provides superior insulation.
  • Mystery material has a Glideskin™ exterior that sheds water to reduce evaporative cooling.
  • The 2.5-mm neoprene gives outstanding insulation and warmth.
  • Titanium laminate adhesive increases heat retention.
  • Soft ThermalPlush™ lining is comfortable to wear all day long.
  • Full-cut style includes ear vents to improve hearing and a chin strap to keep it securely in place.
If you plan to wear the Sea Hood under a helmet, the thicker neoprene may require you to go to a larger size helmet.

    Q:

    Does it cover the neck?
Asked on 3/11/2014 by Fergus from Ireland

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

The back of the cap would come about down to the hairline, so it won't cover much of the neck.

HOW IS THIS FOR NONCOMPETITIVE SWIMMING?
    Asked on 12/14/2013 by tilia

      A:

      Hello,
Interesting question! I paddle and am a competitive swimmer. It's a great hat for swimming, but p, I think it would be a poor choice for swimming, even if you are not racing. I think it would capture too much water and pretty soon you would have a heavy head. It might be OK using it for the breast stroke if you didn't put your head under water, but no good for the other three strokes.
      Hope this helps.

Depends on what your looking for. It is not watertight, you will get
water in your ears. It's a bit bulkier than a traditional bathing cap.

Think of it as a hat which doesn't retain water or as opposed to a wool hat. For swiming in cold water (5 minutes plus) a light dive hood would provide better protection. I consider using this for activitives where you might get a quick dunking and then need to keep wind from chilling my hair/head.

I purchased this to wear kayaking in cold weather, in southern Florida. It has been a great addition for keeping warm in the surf spray when the temperature was below 50. I have also used it for swimming in 68 degree water, it was comfortable and did not interfere with my breathing. I have numerous "mystery" products, and they are all outstanding performers.

Well, it's 2.5 mm neoprene so it does a good job of holding in warmth. It's not form fitting like a stretchy plastic swim cap, however, so water will have a better path to enter and leave. I hope that helps.

The inside is like the inside of my 5mm diving wetsuit, kind of like
fleece. Very warm and comfortable. The outside is smooth rubber. It
does not keep water out when rolling. There is a good bit of flushing
going on. When I roll in 35 degree water, it hurts.

I have been using this product for two years now and it has become my cool
weather-cool water favorite piece of paddle gear. The outside is
slick/smooth but the inside is a thin fleece-like material. This product
is a heater for your head in bright weather. I thoroughly love it.

Not really... it is a kayak or rafting helmet liner, so not designed to have a tight seal against your skin, but the best I've used for what it is designed for.
I hope you find what you need.

No it is not waterproof, it is like a wetsuit, water will get inside
and is flushing through everytime you move your head.

I don't remember if it has perforations in the ear area (to improve hearing) or not...I returned mine because I found the chin-strap uncomfortable..it triggered my gag-reflex when I snapped it closed, and no manner of adjustment could make me comfortable in it. For the record, I do seem to have a low-threshold gag reflex, so it might work for most regular folks. Good Luck.

I purchased the Sea Hood specifically for ocean kayak rescue training.
Due to the fact that one is submersed I would not consider the Sea Hood to be waterproof.
However, the purpose of wearing it is to keep the head warm, and it does accomplish that.
      I hope this info helps.

No. It will keep your head warm but not dry. We use them surfing in Oregon and they work well with a wetsuit.

This is one product that does exactly what it claims. I kayak all year round in the Atlantic and elsewhere. Can get awfully cold. I tried the little hats that have chin straps etc. but this is much better. My only problem is learning how to tuck the extra collar area inside the dry suit. The directions for use could be better but all in all this is absolute safety gear.

Bought this for winter white water kayaking. Keeps my head warm in freezing temps. It is warmer than any other skull cap I have owned. Thought that the 1mm would be thin enough to fit in my current helmet. It was not. I now have seperate summer/winter helmets.
