This video gives tips on how fit an adjustable bungee sprayskirt for a snug fit, while still allowing the skirt to be removed safely in a wet exit.

I bought this spray skirt to be able to run more challenging routes without swamping my 10' [...] Manatee (read: gussied up Perception Prodigy). In short, I love to tackle holes and standing waves head on, but without a skirt, I'd usually take half of the wave with me due to the Manatee's 54" long by 32" wide cockpit. This gigantic space to cover, accompanied by the tendency of rec boats to have high gunwales with low seats is the only reason I can see for water pooling in the skirt (which is does, but you can easily brush it off with your hand, or simply raise your knees to disperse it over the side. This skirt seems to breath rather well, and the light color means that you won't be roasted alive in your boat in the summer sun. After 12.5 miles on the South Branch of the Potomac while running the biggest holes and waves I could find, I had a scant 2 cups of water in the bottom of my boat (which were most likely from me entering and exiting) while my wife (who ran easier and less swamp-inducing routes) had a few gallons in hers. A definite must-have for rec boaters who like a little white water but aren't ready to move up to a smaller (and more expensive) boat.

Kept me dry, no implosion even when 22 lbs dog sat on it

      Comments about NRS Catalina Sprayskirt:

I got this for a Future Beach trophy 126, small deck size. It fit just right with only a small adjustment in bungie tension. It is what I expected it to be - not a skirt to roll a kayak with but to keep splashing water out. Used it in some class II rapids on the New River and even with a little dog jumping on the skirt in the rapids it did not implode. I did get just a bit of water when the waves crashed a bit up my chest - likely leaked around my shirt or was not high enough. It the past I would have several (5-20) gallons of water to swamped the boat in hitting similar standing waves. I will not be taking this boat/skirt into heavier rapids but it did the job keeping the water out for a bit of heavier water than just class I and riffles.

Other than adjusting the bungie tension by tie a knot and then getting the knot of bungie stuck between the back of the rear deck and the lip causing me trouble when attaching/fitting the skirt, having to work blind with my hands behind my back, I am quite happy. I may try to redo the knots to reduce the size of the knot ball, may not be an issue for your boat and I can likely solve my issue.

The implosion bar worked well as did the bungie adjusting lock around my waist. The dual pull loops are well positioned. The seal material worked well - much better than a nylon cloth only seal.

Long term I will have to see how well it holds up, remains waterproof but so far it is what I expected in the skirt. All I needed to do was raise my knees to remove any standing water or pooling caused by Maggie - seemed it was nearly air tight - thus water proof as well.

I believe that it is larger than 1/4”. I would have to say that it is more of a 3/8” diameter which fits the Equinox kayak that I have very well.

                      A:

Bruno, there's a grippy coating in the skirt rim, so with the adjustable bungee properly tightened it should stay on the boat when you roll. The tunnel has a drawcord closure, so unless you have a double-tunnel top (like the Stampede Jacket, Item # 22513.03) that mates with the tunnel, you'll get some water in over the top.

My Seals master sizing book says the Liquid Logic XP-10 takes a 2.2 nylon spray skirt and a 2.5 neoprene. If we're referring to the Catalina spray skirt, I have a Perception Prodigy 10 with the dimensions stated; 38" x 21.5" and the Catalina shown, which I seem to recall is an X-L fits it perfectly. Hope this helps. You can double- check at the Seals website for the 2.2/2.5 sizes in inches to be sure.

My kayak is a 14ft Necky Manitou with a cockpit size of 18 x 37. I think that the spray skirt is large and it fits fine and could expand to fit a slightly larger opening. I don’t know if it would stretch to 24 x 43 but would guess probably not. So if there is a bigger size than large, get it.

                    Q:

Should I get a x-small or small for my tsunami 140 with cockpit size of 35.5 x 19.5? It appears that the tunnel on this skirt is shorter than on the NRS Basic skirt. Is it true?

                      A:

Ruth, you are indeed on the cusp of the two sizes. I suggest you order both and keep the one that fits best. Our returns are easy and free. The Catalina has a 7"H tunnel, the Basic 8". The Catalina is the better skirt.
