We've developed a quality option for folks looking for a skirt to fit recreational kayaks. The Catalina features all the same materials and workmanship as our other skirts; the only difference is size. The deck and tunnel are crafted with durable, urethane-coated 210-denier nylon oxford with factory taped seams. The deck fits onto your boat with an adjustable shock cord bungee in a GripCote™ sleeve that adheres tightly to the cockpit rim. Adjustable waist bungee on the tunnel ensures a universal fit. This skirt also features two grab loops, one in front and one in the back. The implosion bar helps keep water from pooling onto your skirt.

Waist fits up to 49" on the XS skirt, 52" on the Small and Medium, and 56" on the large size skirt.

The adjustable bungee sprayskirt can be a great choice for kayakers paddling touring and recreational kayaks. They tend to be less expensive and can fit a range of cockpit sizes. This video gives tips on how fit an adjustable bungee sprayskirt for a snug fit, while still allowing the skirt to be removed safely in a wet exit.

I finally bought a neoprene skirt because this would fill with water and I was afraid it would implode from the weight.

      A:

Bruno, there's a grippy coating in the skirt rim, so with the adjustable bungee properly tightened it should stay on the boat when you roll. The tunnel has a drawcord closure, so unless you have a double-tunnel top (like the Stampede Jacket, Item # 22513.03) that mates with the tunnel, you'll get some water in over the top.

I couldn't find measurements online. Try measuring the widest and longest points of your kayaks cockpit. Compare that against the sizing chart on the item page, and you'll have your answer.

      A:

My Seals master sizing book says the Liquid Logic XP-10 takes a 2.2 nylon spray skirt and a 2.5 neoprene. If we're referring to the Catalina spray skirt, I have a Perception Prodigy 10 with the dimensions stated; 38" x 21.5" and the Catalina shown, which I seem to recall is an X-L fits it perfectly. Hope this helps. You can double- check at the Seals website for the 2.2/2.5 sizes in inches to be sure.

My boat is a Costco boat made for lakes and rivers. Quite a big cockpit. Since I also use the boat in white water, I had to get a different sprayskirt. This one will fill with water and I was afraid it would implode and swamp my boat.

My kayak is a 14ft Necky Manitou with a cockpit size of 18 x 37. I think that the spray skirt is large and it fits fine and could expand to fit a slightly larger opening. I don’t know if it would stretch to 24 x 43 but would guess probably not. So if there is a bigger size than large, get it.

Would this skirt work with an inflatable coaming? I own a Advanced Elements Airfusion kayak with inflatable coaming area. I wonder if this product fits an inflatable because inflatable coamings do not stand as rigid as hardshells. Have NRS or other kayakers tried this skirt on an inflatable?

Sejong, we don't have any direct experience with this sprayskirt on the Airfusion. Looking on Advanced Element's website, they have similar skirts, with adjustable bungee cords, so it probably would work.

Should I get a x-small or small for my tsunami 140 with cockpit size of 35.5 x 19.5? It appears that the tunnel on this skirt is shorter than on the NRS Basic skirt. Is it true?

Ruth, you are indeed on the cusp of the two sizes. I suggest you order both and keep the one that fits best. Our returns are easy and free. The Catalina has a 7"H tunnel, the Basic 8". The Catalina is the better skirt.

Sorry that it took so long to get back to you, but yes I have a kayak very
similar to that. Just be sure to get a good size measurement of the
cockpit, and use their sizing chart to get the right fit. You will be able
to make some very small adjustments, but the size chart they have is right
on. Hope you enjoy the skirt as much as I have.

Sarah, the Prodigy XS has a pretty small cockpit. The Small NRS Basic Nylon Sprayskirt, Item # 2019, will be a better fit.

I bought this spray skirt to be able to run more challenging routes without swamping my 10' [...] Manatee (read: gussied up Perception Prodigy). In short, I love to tackle holes and standing waves head on, but without a skirt, I'd usually take half of the wave with me due to the Manatee's 54" long by 32" wide cockpit. This gigantic space to cover, accompanied by the tendency of rec boats to have high gunwales with low seats is the only reason I can see for water pooling in the skirt (which is does, but you can easily brush it off with your hand, or simply raise your knees to disperse it over the side. This skirt seems to breath rather well, and the light color means that you won't be roasted alive in your boat in the summer sun. After 12.5 miles on the South Branch of the Potomac while running the biggest holes and waves I could find, I had a scant 2 cups of water in the bottom of my boat (which were most likely from me entering and exiting) while my wife (who ran easier and less swamp-inducing routes) had a few gallons in hers. A definite must-have for rec boaters who like a little white water but aren't ready to move up to a smaller (and more expensive) boat.

        Comments about NRS Catalina Sprayskirt:

This was the only off-the-shelf skirt I could find to fit my my cockpit opening (22" x 33.5"). I've paddled about 4 times in flat water with the skirt so far and no matter how much I tighten the bungee noticeable water leaks in when the cockpit is semi-submerged while I practice braces, sculling, and such. But given the price and lack of skirts to fit long narrow openings, this product is OK.

The skirt kept water out of my lap, with some water pooling on top of it which was easily shaken off. It was hard to get on but I think that is more a function of the large cockpit size on my Pungo kayak, no fault of the skirt.

Watched the video online, about how to adjust skirt to fit to the boat's cockpit . Went right out on the lake, had 15-20 mile and hour winds waves 2-3 feet of chop and the skirt performed beautifully ! I had a few waves completely go over the skirt and it didn't leak a drop of water! Superior product, fits nice and snug around the cockpit, easy to install, it far and away exceeded my expectations !
