How To: Drysuit Zipper Care and Maintenance (3:30)

Replacing a drysuit zipper is not DIY, and it's a very expensive repair. Preventative care, such as like regularly cleaning and lubricating drysuit zipper teeth, will help preserve zipper health. Also, using good techniques to roll and fold the drysuit for transportation to and from the water will help prevent fatal damage. In this instructional video, NRS Repairs guru Josh Gile goes over all the tips for ensuring that the zipper will last the life of your drysuit.

Theresa, the suit is cut roomy to accommodate insulating layers. Please either call, 800.635.5202, or email service@nrs.com with more information about your measurements and we'll be better able to advise you.

      • NRS Extreme Drysuit

        Q:

What drysuit from NRS would be recommended for both scuba diving and kayaking if there is one suitable for both?

I do both avidly (kayak two/three times per week and dive once per month) but have only just gotten to Canada where temperatures are much colder then Australia/Asia where I have been most recently.

Alternatively is there another recommended option to enable kayaking and diving around Vancouver Island, BC all winter?

Any advice is appreciated thank you!

          A:

Boating and diving drysuits are different. Most boating suits, like the Extreme, are made with waterproof/breathable materials that are useful only for surface immersion. Diving suits are non-breathable and have special adaptations that boating suits don't have. You're going to need two separate suits.

          A:

This drysuit is great for kayaking. As far as diving goes, it has no relieve valve for pressure changes. Not sure if NRS has diving suits. I use mine for rescue and is a phenomenal fit.

Looks like the Large is the best size for you. It may feel baggy when you put it on, but when you "burp" out the excess air it will mold to your body.

        Q:

How does this suit compare to the Kokatat Men's Gore-Tex Meridian Drysuit with Relief Zipper-GMER. Is it designed for rafting as opposed to kayak specific use.
Asked on 12/4/2015 by Jim from United States

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

Jim, the Extreme is more comparable to the Kokatat GFER. It doesn't have the double tunnel like the GMER. Our Crux suit, Item # 22533.02, is similar to the GFER. Please let us know if you have more questions.
