    Q:

Would this be appropriate to use with a dry top? Or is it better used with a splash jacket?

I have used it with a splash jacket and alone. It has worked out great. Never used it with a dry top, mainly because I don't have one.

      A:

I wear this shirt by itself, with a splash jacket and/or with a dry top. For me it just depends on the water and air temp. If the water is 40s but it is sunny and high 50s/low 60s I will get hot while paddling whitewater and wearing the shirt with a dry top. Quite often i'll switch from hydroskin to hydrosilk as I get too warm. I recommend the shirt as part of your equipment inventory. My biggest issue was how tight it feels so i ended up with a size up from my normal size. It was worth the money I spent and it was not on sale when I purchased it. Hope this helps.

It is more appropriate for a splash jacket. If you layer a dry top over this you will feel some restriction of movement.

HydroSkin is a lightweight neoprene wetsuit material, so it doesn't breathe. You can wear it with a dry top, but just be aware of that fact.

      A:

I'm not sure exactly what is meant by "weight". I cannot tell you the scale weight but I believe it's 1.5 mm thick material and its comfortable to wear if paddling up to about 75-80 deg F air temps. much over that and you'll be sweating and uncomfortable. If immersed in cold water you'll get short term protection in water temps in low 50's, knocking off the chill.

      Good product.
Have not had a problem with stretching out, shrinking or pilling.
      Don't wash hot.
Size will be a snug fit so guessing you want to go larger.
Snug is best for the paddling use but if you are just buying to wear around and
if you like it loose maybe even XL.

The HydroSkin material itself is quite stretchy. It has good "memory" and will maintain its original size over its lifespan.

I bought this as a gift and it was true fit. Mine (a women's) got a tad smaller however since you don't dry it and standard washing practices are not used for neoprene, you don't see much for change.

I have not found the hydroskin shirt to shrink with wear or washing. As far as washing they recommend only washing in cold water, by hand, without detergent.

I would go larger. It is stretches and is meant to fit snugly.
Going larger gives you the option of putting a silk shirt or liner under it..

Not so great: I ordered my usual size and found it too restrictive. Exchange went well and the one I got fits great (I'm not sure what size you have listed above, could be the first one.). I'm 6'3", 195 lbs, long torso,37" sleeves, so I expect trouble with sizing.
Great:It adds just enough warmth for the usual foggy, slightly windy 55 deg water and air, and periods of heavy paddling as well as lots of sitting on SOT kayak. Well made and rinses and dries quickly. You make good stuff that lasts, and at reasonable prices.

Ordered a XXL HydroShirt recently and had too return it... way too small! I'm not fat, just big and this XXL was not even close to fitting me.I know these are snug fitting tops, but again - way too small! Really like the product and price, but wish NRS would make products like this in a larger size... much larger! Like to see this HydroShirt available in a XXXL or XXXXL sizes.... "Grizzly" sizes?

Great for chilly days on the water, but needs another layer if it's cold out or raining. I haven't gotten it really wet, but I imagine that it dries pretty quickly. Wish it was more windproof. I thought it would be too tight, but it loosened up a bit and didn't cause any problems.

I used this as a base layer while ice fishing. It was warm but the size runs very small. I found wearing a moisture wicking shirt beneath it was beneficial if using it for warmth and not water sports. I wear a lg, bought an xl, and wished I bought an xxl. Quality was good.
