Commonly heard complaints from boaters are "My wetshoes dry slowly" and "My shoes really stink." The problems are related. Neoprene shoes don't "breathe" so moisture escapes slowly unless you work to eliminate it. And bacteria and other microorganisms in the water and from your feet can generate odors in those moist conditions. This video shows how to clean and dry watershoes to head off odor. And if stinky shoes happen, we show how to eliminate it.

    Comments about NRS Desperado Wetshoe:

I think it will be good. I'm not on the river that often these days. First use was a weekend trip down Westwater Canyon. I was in the front of the paddle boat; the shoes got some water in them but I didn't notice until after takeout. Comfortable and easy on/off. Durability remains to be seen but I'm confident they will hold up as NRS products seem to do.

I've used it only once. Feel great. The sole feels sturdy enough. Inside the kayak, my heels were saying thank you thank you thank you.

I think wearing a pair of wetsocks will make a great combination.

      Service and delivery comments:

Excellent service and delivery. Picked the wrong size initially. So I ordered a new pair and did the hazzle free return with the wrong size. All the process was smooth,

      Comments about NRS Desperado Wetshoe:

I am fairly new to kayaking and have worn these 3 times. So far they are very comfortable. Not sure how durable they will be over time - but they seem to do ok. A little difficult to get off. How the heck do you dry these things? Take 3 days upside down on a peg to dry.

      Service and delivery comments:

They were delivered very quickly, but in a big envelope. Not sure that's a good idea given how much shipping companies like to beat up packages.

Had an older version of these shoes that I wore for a few years and loved. These have the same virtues (eg, no sand or gravel gets in) but also have better traction and are truer to size.

            how much do they weigh?

could one hike comfortably in them for 6+ miles? (then how much would that decrease there life?)

            Thanks

Paul, a pair of size 9s weighs one pound. These aren't the shoes I'd choose to walk that distance, especially over rough terrain or when carrying a load. For hiking, something like the Velocity, Item # 30045.01, would be a much better choice.

Re. NRS Desperado Wetshoe. There does not appear to be separate men's and
women's version of this shoe. At the bottom of the "Product Description"
page, it states: "Women order one size smaller." I infer from this that
the sizing is men's sizing and that if you were a women's size 9, for
example, you would order a size 8 in this product. I am a man and I ordered
a pair in my shoe size and it fit about right. It wouldn't hurt to call
NRS, though. Their Customer service people are helpful and friendly.

I've used these over the past several years....a good product. As to the sizing, I believe it is based on mens....I wear a 10 and it fits me just right....females who have used mine on a couple of trips confirmed it was men's sizing....hope this helps...

Mary, the shoe is in men's sizing. We always list "Women's" in the title on women's specific sizing. Generally, women get a good fit by ordering one size smaller than their normal shoe size, depending on what you plan to wear inside over your feet inside the shoe.

              I wear a 9 1/2 or a 10, depending on the shoe. Ordered a 10 and it fit

Erik, for shoes produced this year we developed our own shoe last. So, you should find the non-closeout shoes fit true to size, as long as you choose them with what you''re wearing inside them in mind.

No, they run large. I wear 10.5-11 and I ordered 11. In hindsight 10 would have been better.

I went one size larger and it was great. It allows for a liner in the colder months. It also leaves enough room for your toes when curled under while in a canoe saddle. It's hard to find shoes that are comfortable for paddling. Love these shoes. One size larger is most likely what you want.
