It needs to be way wider as the line does not stay in the basket very well.

Comments about NRS Frame Stripping Basket:

I altered the Velcro straps to fit my stand up bar on my kayak. I also added to wedges to keep it level. No one makes one for a fishing kayak, so I had to alternate it. I am going to add a remove able belt so that I can use it for wading and fishing. I use it on my Jacksn big rig and it works very well keeping my fly line from tangling on my foot rests.I am happy the way it performs.

              Q:

Will this work on the NRS standard U-shaped thigh bar? I can't tell from the pictures if the design depends on leaning against the vertical pipe that holds up the thigh hook or Y thigh bar (which is not present on the U-shape thigh bar). It seems like the vertical bar prevents the basket from rotating downward.

If it only works on the thigh hook or Y bar, why not develop a model that works with the U-shape bar too? Thanks.

I don't't think the basket works very well. I looks like it stands straight out in the picture but it actually sags quite a bit when installed. I haven't figured how to mount it so it works properly.

It would work on a simple horizontal bar- I use it on their hoop-style leaning bar- the one with a lo-pro at each end.  The velcro allows you to tighten it enough to grip without having to rest it on a vertical bar.  It drops a little, but not bad.  Actually like it to droop a little- the line comes out easier when you shoot a cast.

you need the y bar becuse it needs the center pole to strap to and support
the basket. it will not work with a standard u-shaped bar

I don't think it would work on a U bar. I have a Y bar and it works great but it would rotate forward without the vertical post.

I don't think it will. It sags pretty badly even with the upright support. It is a small target to hit especially on your off side.

You're correct, Phillip, you need a vertical bar for it to rest against. We can make you such a bar to fit on your U-shape thigh bar with a LoPro Fitting and a short length of frame pipe.

It does need to rest on the center post. I have a U shaped bar on my Riverboatworks frame and I had to do a little fabrication to get it to work.

                Hi Patrick,
The basket is 15" across at the mounting bracket. It is 18" at the widest point. From the front of bracket to back by mounting rod is 14". It has very heavy Velcro straps that are very secure.
                Hope this helps.

No clue. I've never used mine. I think the Velcro straps would have a hard time with anything less than 1-5/8" tubing and you still need a vertical bar.
