  • NRS 13' Outlaw Cataraft

    Q:

Hello, I'm considering this cat as an option instead of a 13' super puma raft. I would use this as transportation for fishing on class 2 and 3 type water (Trinity, SF Smith, MF Smith in CA). I have a couple of questions. What is the load for this cat with the sport cat frame? Will this cat draft less in the water than the aire SP loaded with the same weight?

      A:

James, cats make good fishing craft. We don't give load capacities for any of our boats; it's just too subjective. As a general rule-of-thumb, with a raft and cat of the same length,to get good performance you'll carry less weight in the cat. And, with the same weight in both, the cat will draft deeper. At this time the Outlaw cat is only available in this blue. Perhaps at a future date we'll have additional colors. It is a nice blue!

    Q:

Is this boat an import? I'm amazed at the advertised weight. So curious about the construction and fabric. As sturdy as the other catarafts in the NRS line? Thanks.

      A:

Yes, the boats are made in Asia. The 41 ounce, 2000 denier PVC-coated fabric is burly and the seams are welded. We think it's a good boat at a very competitive price. Our other cats are made with a different material and we obviously have a much longer operational history with them than we do with the new Outlaw, so we can't do an apples-to-apples comparison. We think buyers are going to be very happy with their performance.

    Q:

Can this be fitted with a casting deck ? Can a second seat be added for a second adult fly fisher?

Pappy, the best fitting frame for this cat is the Sport Cat Frame, Item # 92072.01. It's the one shown in the photo. It's not the most ideal for what you're suggesting. However, our Frameshop crew does amazing things. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, to discuss options.

    Q:

I am looking for a cataraft but am thinking of buying a 14' cat butthis 13' seems interesting. How much weight/load can be handled with this boat with a sport cat frame? I want to haul 3 people (including me)on day trips on the Payette.

      A:

Ben, even though it's 13' long, the 23" tubes probably gives it as much flotation as the 14' AIRE Ocelot with it's 22" tubes. Taking a couple of passengers should be no problem as far as the weight's concerned. Giving them a place to sit on the Sport Cat Frame will take some modification. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, and we can go over options with you.

Just bought it and ran Westwater on the Colorado river. It handled great. I'm not sure how durable it will be in the long run but it seems to be well made. I was pleasantly surprised.
