  • NRS Frame U-bolt

    Q:

Will they also fit around the 1.875" (some other frame makers use a larger size.)

      A:

      NO! 1 1/4" nominal i.d. schedule 40 and schedule 80 aluminum pipe is 1.62" o.d. (approximately 1 5/8"). 1 1/2 inch is just too fat for the standard 1 5/8" NRS 'U" bolts.
As an alternative to NRS fittings; the Hollander Mfg Speed-rail/Nu-rail cast pipe fittings can be used, but although speedrail fittings are considerably lighter, these are not as burly as NRS fittings.
I have had my 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" corner Speedrail ("el") fittings precision welded to the front and rear cross bars, and then have added a second allen screw on the side bar for security.
REGARDLESS of what you use, exact torque on bolts and allen screws is required. I use a socket drive 3/16" allen head to tighten the fittings: and I check the torque after an hour or so of rowing along.

I would say no. They're a tight fit around the NRS pipe.

They fit around the 1-5/8" standard NRS frame tubing and are 2-1/2" tall. The answer is also stated in the online catalog.

NRS Frame U-bolt by NRS - Oversize

            Comments about NRS Frame U-bolt:

I ordered the oversize - 2 5/8" ones to add some side decking to an Alley Cat frame. I was using 3/4" marine ply. I would have liked the U-bolts to be 1/8"~3/16" longer as I had to recess the washers and nuts a little taking away some strength of the ply. (frame tube-1 5/8" + 3/4" ply + washer/nut-3/8"+ = 2 3/4")
Maybe NRS could offer this length too?

                          Comments about NRS Frame U-bolt:

I bought these, not only to have an extra set on hand, (I would HATE to be without spares if I truly needed them) but also as ameans to mount a couple of cup holders (my friend welded up) to my frame.
As always- they did the trick, and were exactly what I needed.

                          Service and delivery comments:

NRS has NEVER been late with a shipment to me.
