I've been paddling few a couple years now and am still coming round to purchasing all of my essentials. I wanted to upgrade from a synthetic workout shirt to a genuine neoprene top. The HydroSkin was cute, had great reviews, and was from a source I could trust.
Needless to say, I was stoked to receive this in the mail.
Quickly I realized, however, that my body type is not appropriate for this snug fitting top. The shoulders were too tight - I could quickly imagine feeling like a small child was putting me in a leg lock, halfway down the river. And the mid-torso seem just made things awkward. For as tight as my shoulders felt squeezed into the upper half, the bottom half simply flowed away from me. Like I was a disturbingly wilted tulip. Trust me, it looked as awkward as that sounds.
I'm 5'7"(1/2, 140lbs, and have a cross between a swimmer's and runner's build. I work out a lot in both dynamics and have the muscle composition to show for it. I would understand if perhaps my shoulder to hip ratio is not the standard for many of the women shopping here, but if you happen to have a build similar to mine, you might really want to consider looking into the men's section.
I'm not sure why paddle sport apparel wouldn't account for having strong (broad) shoulders, but I really hope it isn't just because we're women.

I'm disappointed but hopeful that this was a one-time case and NRS can help me find something that really does suit me. I'm also hopeful that in the future, the products begin to account for muscular women and that this won't be such a problem for other women.

Comments about NRS Women's HydroSkin Shirt - S/S - Closeout:

I wear this paddling and it allows for great range of motion! I ordered a size up as was recommended by other reviews and I'm definitely glad I did. I am 5'8", 160lbs, and I have naturally broader shoulders. I just started paddling. The shirt fit very snug, with a small amount of give in the shoulders, which will be perfect when I start building a little muscle (wishful thinking?). Very happy with the shirt, planning on ordering another in a different color.

Comments about NRS Women's HydroSkin Shirt - S/S - Closeout:

This shirt is great for layering. I put on a thin long sleeved shirt underneath to help soak up the sweat. I bought a size larger than normal as I have muscular shoulders for a women and the larger size allowed for the movements required in kayaking. It kept me very warm especially with my paddling jacket over the top while in cold weather. I'm glad I got the short sleeved shirt because I feel the long sleeved one would get too hot.

          Service and delivery comments:

The shirt was packed fine and it arrived as expected.

Yes they keep you a lot warmer in any water I would go true to size if not smaller because it will keep you warmer if it is tight. I am almost sure they have Capri legging a if not on nrs.com then defiantly on cks.

                A:

There is a capri leggings version of this product, and I find it makes the
perfect compliment for staying warm in the water. They are also helpful
protection against abrasions, making one feel more confident in the water.
After use in the ocean, it is recommended to rinse the items in fresh water
and allow them to air dry. Because the material has a high elasticity, I
would worry that the chemicals in a pool may damage the product and reduce
its life expectancy. My items have lasted years by using them as described.
If you choose to use them in the pool, I'd recommend you pay special care
to rinsing the garments well immediately after use, but I can't say how the
clothing will do; I'd assume it would depend on the amount and type of
chemicals used in a particular pool, as well.

Susan, HydroSkin is often worn in pools for fitness swimming and water aerobics. The HydroSkin Capris come in two neoprene thicknesses - 0.5 mm, Item # 15017.02 and 1.5 mm, # 15042.01. One thing to be aware of, the high chlorine content in most pools can be damaging to neoprene. Rinse your gear thoroughly in fresh water after each pool session, then air dry, to protect your investment.

This can be washed in a cold delicate cycle. I have used it surfing several times and skiing in lakes. It really holds up well and I believe should be machine washed after ocean wear. It is my second hydroskin.

We recommend hand washing, Chris, but if you wash it as you mention, it should be okay. Remember, there's a layer of neoprene in there that can get damaged with a vigorous machine agitator. And definitely, no bleach and air dry.

Hmmm.I am not the best person to ask on this one, but I will offer what I
can! I have a small chest, 32B - so I'm not familiar with that part of
fitting. But, I am small too.5'5 and about 125 lbs. with pretty strong
shoulders. Are they in women's sizing? I don't have this piece of equipment
(jealous!!!) I'd probably opt for the medium just because of the hydroskin
fabric type being a tiny bit constricting just because of it's nature.
So.my guess is that you would be happier with a large. If they are general
                or men's sizing, then I'd probably suggest a medium. I swim in a men's
small. Have you tried Downriver Outfitters??? It's near Golden off Ward
Road, so not too-too far from Boulder. Maybe call them first to see if they
have any in stock.or what they might offer up in terms of advice.
BTW - I love my hydroskin lowers. I wear them daily for commercial guiding
on Clear Creek - and I don't know how I'd survive without them. It's a
great fabric, and it lasts forever, and it provides just the right amount of
insulation. Good Luck and Enjoy!!! J
