  • Tributary Strike 2 Inflatable Kayak

    Q:

Can anyone comment on the relative stability of the Strike 2 compared to the Tomcat Tandem? I'm mostly concerned about the small tube size of the Strike 2 and how it will perform in gnarly conditions (like when pinned against a strainer). I plan to use one of these 2 boats for (mostly) solo, multi-day camping trips on up to class III streams. Never more than 280 lbs of weight. In general, is the Strike much more susceptible to being swamped than the Tomcat - enough to offset it's advantages (better materials, construction, tracking in flat sections, speed, warranty)?

      A:

Timothy, AIRE says they've talked with you recently. They're recommending the Strike for what you describe. It will be far more agile, quick, and is going to track better on flat water. While the Tomcat will be a bit more stable, the Strike is the better boat. Let us know if you have further questions, 800.635.5202. And remember, all accessories purchased with the boat receive a 10% discount.

i'm looking for something sturdy enough that i can take my 45lb australian shepard out on the lake with me. Any special considerations?

      A:

Richard, the Strike 2 is plenty sturdy for you and your dog. The only thing I'd consider is how well the dog will behave on the water. The Strike, at 36.5", is relatively narrow. A wider boat like the Outfitter II will be more stable with a frisky passenger.

The boat comes in a box 16" x 16" x 38". It does not include a storage bag.

    Q:

How much weight can you put in the Strike 2? Can it be configured for solo use?

      A:

John, AIRE doesn't list a weight capacity. Rest assured it will carry two full-size adults, plus a bit of gear. Or, you can take out a seat and go solo. The seats can be moved anywhere along the length.
